Jenny Says

I have Mason’s large CD collection. Over the past week or so, I’ve been dumping copious amounts of music into my iTunes (and by extension my iPod, which I plug into my car’s stereo). He is introducing me to bands I’ve never heard before (My Morning Jacket, Them Crooked Vultures, Flogging Molly), filling holes in my CD collection (Smashing Pumpkins, Van Halen) and reacquainting me with music I used to dig but haven’t listened to in ages (Cowboy Mouth).

For the last, I heard Jenny Says on the way to work this morning. It was awesome. Cowboy Mouth was one of my favorites of the bands that played Satellite when I worked there (over a decade ago), even though I run hot and they’d always request that the AC be turned off before their show started. The lead singer is also the drummer, and he enjoys spraying the audience with his sweat. It works for him, so I didn’t mind sweating along with him.

Regarding the Van Halen, my brothers and I always fell on opposite sides of that coin. I’m an old school Van Halen fan while they are both Van Hagar fans. So Mason’s VH skews to the latter. The three of us went to see Fair Warning at the Ale House (RIP) and had one helluva night. I’ll leave it at that.

Of the new stuff, so far I’m digging Flogging Molly the most. Funny – both Flogging Molly and Cowboy Mouth are playing Houston’s House of Blues next month. Perhaps I should go see one/both.
